What enables the communities to participate and set priorities is the fact that SGP has a bottom up approach and it focuses on capacitating communities to be in control of their development. This empowerment process and space that they are given to operate enables them to be active participants who are in control of their development and destiny.

The receiver of this Award is SGP grantee partner The Africa Centre for Holistic Management, that has implemented SGP funded project ZIM/SGP/OP5/Y3/STAR/LD/13/10 .

June 2014 - Equator Prize 2014

The receiver of this International Award is SGP grantee partner Makoni Organic Farmers Association, that has implemented SGP funded project ZIM/SGP/OP5/CORE/CH/11/06 .

farmers who were previously tobacco farmers are now into organic farming and have been working to eliminate chemicals in agricultural production. The Association is made up of 450 farmers from Makoni District with 202 male members and 248 women and out of these a total of a total of 224 farmers are now organically certified. The farmers have been trained on organic farming and intensive organic methods that include Integrated Pest Control Management techniques and other diversified income generation opportunities through organic farming, apiculture, aquaculture, ethno-veterinary and organic mushroom production.
