Plantation of bananas and other crops on an area of 10 hectares in Meillac at the Haitian-Dominican border

Spearheaded by the CBO "Organisation des Planteurs de Meillac" (OPM), this GEF SGP supported project helped reduce land degradation near the town of Meillac as well as pollution of Massacre River separating Haiti from the Dominican Republic, while improving food security and local livelihoods. Harnessing the suitable climate conditions with an average annual rainfall of 500mm for the cultivation of high-value crops such as bananas, peas and yams, the project directly benefitted 60 families, with nearly 300 beneficiaries in total.
