  • Over 100 ha degraded land rehabilitated

  • At least 5 project sites conserved and declared by local authorities as excluded grazing areas

  • At least 17 herders associations registered

  • Breeding of indigenous chickens to enhance impact of other poultry initiatives has potential to be up scaled and replicated

September 2016 - Celebrating African Woman in Climate Change and Energy

Lesotho womenApp sept16Lesotho Ministry of Energy and Meteorology supported by the Lesotho Electricity Corporation and the UNDP Co in Lesotho, organized an event to honor women involved in climate change and energy related initiatives. In this event ten SGP women grantee partners were recognized and awarded for their commitment to environment. Here are the awards received by our grantee partners: 

Leadership in Energy Advocacy Award. Ms. Mantopi Lebofa director of Technologies for Economic Development, was the receiver of this Award. Grantee partner Technologies for Economic Development has implemented GEF SGP funded projects LSO/SGP/OP5/Y1/CORE/CC/11/04 and LSO/SGP/OP5/Y2/CORE/CC/2012/12

Leadership in Education Award. Ms. Mamalefetsane Phakoe, member of NSC Lesotho, was the receiver of this Award.

Leadership in Climate Change Adaptation Award. Ms. Mampho Thulo, director of Rural Self-help Development Association, was the receiver of this Award. Rural Self-help Development Association has implemented GEF SGP funded project LSO/SGP/OP4/Y2/CORE/2008/02.

Innovation in Climate Change Award was given to SGP project beneficiary Kopanang ka Lerato Basali ba Patlong.

Adaptation: Food Security Award was given to SGP grantee partner 5. Majantja Temong Farmers Association that has implemented project LSO/SGP/OP5/Y3/CORE/BD/2013/03

Adaptation: Water Management Award was given to SGP grantee partner Thaba Putsoa Development Association, that has implemented project LSO/SGP/OP5/Y1/CORE/BD/12/06. Lesotho WomenApp sept2016 2

Adaptation: Biodiversity Award was given to Ms. Makholu Mahao, Village Chief and a member of SGP grantee partner.

Adaptation: Tourism Award was given to SGP grantee partner Baroana Rock Art Centre, that has implemented project LSO/SGP/OP5/Y2/CORE/BD/2012/19

Adaptation: Diversification Award was given to SGP grantee partner The Bana Project of Lesotho that has implemented project LSO/SGP/OP5/Y4/CORE/CC/2014/02.

Mitigation: Recycling Award was given to Sr. Jacintha Rantso director of grantee partner Good Shepherd Center for Teenage Mothers that has implemented project LSO/SGP/OP5/Y3/CORE/CC/2013/02

 

 

2012 - Best Performance Awards. Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation

SGP Grantees have been recognized, among other groups and individuals, by the Ministry of Forestry and Land Reclamation, as contributors to the overall environment and natural resources management particularly in the programmes being promoted by the Ministry. This is an annual event whereby the Ministry assesses initiatives by communities in all the 10 districts of Lesotho and then gives awards in the form of trophies and certificates and some farm implements, to those groups that are making a positive impact on the environment and on their peers. The SGP grantees were in the category of Herder Groups.

The awards ceremony was held at a central point and the Berea District awardees decided to hold a special ceremony in their district to share their glory with their local communities. Therefore the District ceremony that was officiated by the District Administrator and graced by the presence of the Minister of Forestry and Land Reclamation, Hon Kabelo Mafura and the Principal Secretary of the same ministry and other senior officials, was held on Friday 23rd, March 2012.
