Since 2000, the COMPACT programme has been working with communities living in the vicinity of eight World Heritage Sites in Africa, Asia, Meso-America and the Caribbean. Through extensive on-the-ground experience and a participatory methodology that integrates an evidence-based approach, COMPACT has rigorously tested the claim that communitybased initiatives can signifi cantly increase the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation in globally signifi cant protected areas while alsoimproving local livelihoods.

Association des Pêcheurs de la Communauté Rurale de Mangagoulack wins Equator Award.

2010 - Equator Initiative Award

The Federation of Local Gies Niodior represented by Ms. Ami NDOUR wins Equator Initiative Award.

2008 - Equator Initiative Award

SGP grantee The Fédération Régionale des Groupements de Promotion Féminine (FRGPF) (Regional Federation of Women's Advancement Groups Ziguinchor), represented by Ms Sadio Thioune SEYDY received the award for its work to promote and maintain a sustainable oyster industry while preserving the region's many important species.

2006 - Equator Prize Winner

COPRONAT, represented by Mrs. Woulimata Thiao, President, was selected among 25 winners.

2005 - Grand Prix of the President of the Republic of Senegal

Three SGP projects won awards during the Grand Prix of the President of the Republic of Senegal.

  • 1st Prize: SEN/03/10 - Projet de Promotion d'une Gestion Communautaire intégrée et Durable de l'écosystème de Mangrove dans la région de Ziguinchor.
  • 3rd Prize: SEN/95/02 - Renforcement du projet de Restauration et de Conservation de la Biodiversité dans la Réserve Naturelle de Poponguine par un groupement de femmes.
  • 10th Prize: SEN/98/G12 - Projet de Restauration de l'Ecosystème de Mangrove dans la zone de Fimela-Djilor-Simal
2000 - Special mention by the Environment Advisor of the President of the Republic of Senegal
