Community Micro Hydro For Rural Electrification in Pagalungan Sub District (Kg. Inakaak), Pensiangan, Sabah
This community driven project will be building a five kilowatt (5 Kw) Micro Hydro system for the basic lighting needs of the local indigenous community in Inakaak, Pagalungan sub district, Pensiangan, Sabah. The clean energy generated through the construction micro hydro system would provide general lighting which aims to improve the basic health, education and sustainable livelihood of the community, while the utilization of renewable energy will also help to address and mitigate the impact of climate change by replacing the use of fossil fuel by the villagers, thus leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Capacity building on watershed management would increase the community’s awareness on the importance of watershed areas for the sustainability of the micro hydro system, the conservation of forest biodiversity and protection of natural resources and environment.
