Community development integrated with the management of Tujiin nars protected area
Objective: Establishing a collectively managed green zone to increase community resilience, reduce overgrazing and combat land degradation by organizing communities, enhancing their capacity and facilitating activities that improve livelihoods and sustainability.

Implementation:

Activity 1. Planting two types of green fodder to reduce pressure on pastures.
Activity 2. Creating a wind protection belt around the green zone.
Activity 3. Setting up greenhouses to raise fruit and other seedlings for sale in local markets and to combat land degradation.
Activity 4. Making fertilizers from animal dung to enrich the soil.
Activity 5. Growing vegetables and watermelon to meet herder community food needs. Growing watermelon is a practice in the region.

Benefits & Impacts:

1. Pressure on pastureland reduced.
2. Protection of the National Park enhanced.
3. Supply of tree seedlings improved in the region.
4. Green fodder reserved for winter.
5. Soil quality improved.
6. Increased carbon sequestration by over 40,000 trees planted.
7. Community production system strengthened.
8. Livelihoods improved.
9. Income generation diversified.
10. Community governance system strengthened.
