Bamboo Plantation's Development to Increase Food Security, Income Generation and for Adaptation to Climate Change for Rural Development
Recently, bamboo has received increasing attention because of its easy propagation, vigorous regeneration, fast growth and high productivity. In traditional societies, bamboo utilization extends from a material for construction and handicraft to food and feed. Furthermore, bamboo products contribute to the income of many poor villagers. Nava and Napolthan Villages, Vapy District is one of the poor district in Saravan Province. The people in these communities depend mainly on natural resources as well as wild bamboo. Bamboo and other non-timber forest products (NTFPs) are currently being exploited in a non-sustainable way. This not only threatens the resource base but also the livelihoods of the people depending on those resources. Therefore, project will help to proposes the equip to local communities with necessary tools (knowledge, skills, and organizational capacities) to take responsibility in their own hands and safeguard forest resources, aspecially bamboo plantation; while at the same time assuring the sustainability of their income through bamboo processing.
