CAPACITY BUILDING FOR STUDENTS TO ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE IN SCHOOLS IN FCT ABUJA
This project seeks to encourage and demonstrate the essence of collective measures in the fight against climate change. This will be done primarily through advocacy, environmental stewardship, behavioral change and actions that would result in environmental protection and climate change awareness and mitigation amongst teachers and students in schools in FCT Abuja. The Project specific goal is Increasing school tteachers and students awareness and knowledge on climate change and environmental issues; equipping students with technical skills to take responsible actions towards improving the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change The objectives of the project include: 1. Increasing Teachers and students awareness and knowledge on climate change and environmental issues.2. To equip the students with necessary skills which will enable them take responsible actions towards improving the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change.3. To promote environmentallyfriendly lifestyles and consumption habits such that encourages actions that would help protect the environment.4. ; improving environmental governance by promoting a participatory model that gathers stakeholders and encourages them to share perspectives on climate change mitigation and adaptation and above all building a generation of Renewable Energy professionals and bridging the technical skill gap that currently exist. Activities which will be aimed at addressing the challenges in the communities include: 1. Advocacy and Planning Meeting with FCT Secondary School Board and School Authorities. 2. Two days Train the Trainer Sensitization Workshop on Climate Change, Impacts, Adaptation and establishment of Eco Clubs. 2. Establishment of Eco Clubs in 10 selected schools .3.Practical demonstration on the Installation and maintenance of Renewable Energy System such as solar photovoltaic. 4. Establishment of a compost dump for compost making and a small organic farm/garden by the students in two schools. 5. Establishment of Fruits and orchard in five schools by the Eco Clubs 6, Practical demonstration on waste segregation and the provision of waste bin in two school 7. One Day Environmental Festival
