The Giant Swallotail Buttefly (GSB)

The GSB is endemic to Jamaica. It is the largest in the Western Hemisphere and second largest in the world. The buttefly is listed ay threatened by the IUCN. A vigourous biodiversity awareness programme and reforestation of forest trees on which the buttefly lays its eggs, has seen a significant increase in the butterfly population. In Jamaica the GSB is found only in the Blue and John Crow Mountatains, and the Cockpit Country.
