A view on one participating village-findings and observation from project site visit, February 2009
Baan Saw Khrae Ka with 40 families enjoy the provisions of the Kayah-Karen Montane forest and successfully protect them to a certain extent. Mountain and forest provide water for community consumption all year round through several streams flowing down the valley. Flowing westwards, the river converges into the Moei and then Salwin River of the Sea of Bengal. The area around the village is classified into cultivated land, community forest, and conservation forest, with official recognition. It is interesting to see how the project would reduce the consumption of fire-woods when completed.
