Project Details & Results
In this proejct, SCODE will install solar lighting in 100 homes in Bahati area of Nakuru. This will be to demonstrate the potential and replicability of solar photovoltaic systems and enable the community have access to solar lighting and provide an enabling environment for school going children by enabling them study at home using solar electricty
Notable Community Participation
The community will contribute half the cost of the soalr panels. They will also learn about the technology and be trained how to maintain them in the long term.
Capacity - Building Component
Several young people from the community were trained on solar technology and installations.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The proejct will save about US$20,000 per year from the 100 homes in monies that would have been used for kerosene, dry cell batteries and wet cell batteries.
Gender Focus
The project benefited members of a women's group first, and was tehn extended to other members of the community.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The community is now aware that fossil fuels destroy the global environment and that using renewable energy can mitigate this effect.
