Project Details & Results
-To restore vegetation cover in environmentally degraded Uluguru mountains
-To enhance the process of carbon sequestration through increased vegetation cover
- To sensitize villagers in 24 villages living on the slopes of Uluguru mountains to refrain from enhaging in environment degrading practices.
- To promote afforestation and reforestation activities through increasing availability of tree seedlings and also to encourage households to develop private woodlots to provide a continuous source of fuelwood for household energy.
-To support community initiatives aimed at restoring vegetation cover in environmentally degraded Uluguru mountains which serve as important water catchment areas for Morogoro and Dar es Salaam
Notable Community Participation
Community participated in analysing factors that cause forest fires, in forming fire fighting brigades and reforestation initiatives.
Capacity - Building Component
Communities trained on how to fight fire outbreaks, tree nursery management and tree planting practices.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Fruit trees and trees that can be used as building poles generate income that can be used to improve livelihoods.
Gender Focus
Women and men participated on equal basis in the implementation of the project. This helped to promote gender balance in the project area.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Indigenous peoples participated through attending awareness raising rallies that the project organized.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Carbon sequestration objective reduce global warming. Through this objective, the public was made aware of the project's contribution to the Global Environment.
Policy Impact
Project generated positive feedback on the viability of the policy on Joint Forest Management (JFM), which promoted involvement of local communities int he management of protected areas.

Project Results
- Project has increased awareness to local communities on the importance of conserving protected areas
- Project has promoted growing of family level woodlots for woodfuel and fruits
- Project has involved local communities to participate voluntarily to control fires whenever there is outbreak.
- Project has succeeded to reduce incidences of bush fires through persuading community members to refrain from fire burning practices and enforcing forest fire control by laws.
