Project Details & Results

Today the issue of the POPS influence on environment and health of people is of the highest priority. Danger that POPs bring, began to cause more and more than anxiety which has led to acceptance and planning of measures directed on protection of health of people and environment. But the main problem is still that people are not aware about the POPs danger.

The project is directed on Uralsk city population awareness raising about POPs, ecological responsibility of citizens by means of their conscious and active participation in nature protection action, by organization and carrying out of information campaign among citizents of the city (release and distribution of booklets, actions, electronic dispatches); carrying out of the round table with participation of NGOs, mass-media, state nature protection departments, local authorities representatives, distribution of information through mass-media.

Expected results: The project will give exhaustive information anout POPs and their harmful influences on health and environment, that will lead to deliberate approach to the problem.

Capacity - Building Component
The project will strengthen NGOs' capacity in realizaion of the information campaigns and improve communications with local community, governmental departments and other counterparts. A wide audience will be acknowledged with the POPs issue.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Information outreach will be realized through releasing and distribution of booklets and leaflets, actions implementation, electronic dispatch. A round table with participation of NGOs, mass-media, nature protection organizations, local authorities will be arranged.

Project Results
- Large-scale information campaign is realized. State local and regional environmental departments,local authorities actively participated and supported the activity of the project
- The youth was actively involved: carrying out of interactive trainings with demonstration of the video-film about POPs, distribution of booklets, sticking of posters in the most popular city places, such as libraries, parks, etc.
- Regional mass media actively participated in carrying out of information campaign: a number of articles are published, video-broadcasts on TV are shown. Under the initiative of the local tele-radio company management the project coordinator has given an interview on radio about POPs.
As a whole, the result of the campaign was wide informing the population of Uralsk city about POPs, attraction of the public attention to the problem and active participation in preventive measures.
A round table with participation of NGOs, local authorities, state bodies, mass media, local population was carried out. Upon its completion a set of recommendations on reduction of POPs at the local level was developed.
