Combating land Degradation and Enhancing Livelihoods in the Suid Bokkeveld

Notable Community Participation
The Cooperative implementing the project was established with the support of local small scale farmers. Havind said this, the project is fully supported by the community and at the same time supporting this community.

Capacity - Building Component
The project aims to develop the capacity of small scale farmers in the area to sustain and care for their natural resources. The project raises their awareness and capacity of sustainable farming methods in order to secure their livelihoods.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project aims to enhance the livelihood option adopted by small scale farmers in the Suid Bokkeveld through developing their capacity in sustainable farming practices that aims to conserve natural resources.

Gender Focus
The project includes both men and women who are currently rooibos producers.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The project targets the Nama people of the northern cape.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The Heiveld has a strong history of caring for the environment. From the time the organisation was formed the members have organically grown their produce. The farmers have worked together with scientists to find our the ideal harvest frequency. This awareness will continue for the full duration of the project and beyond.

Policy Impact
The project aims to contribute to the implementation of the National Action Plan for desertification.
