Project Details & Results
The project will provide for environmental education, public awareness and avicultural programmes both on and off-site, highlighting wetland ecosystems and their values. The programme
will be implemented in partnership with both the public and private sectors.
The grant will be used to contract technical expertise to implement public education and awareness programmes, provide the project with training materials, establish a data storage and retrieval system for the aviculture project, and support monitoring of re-introduced waterfowl species.
Project Results
Policy influence:
a) Increased knowledge, understanding and awareness of wetlands and their values.
b) Production of more local material for publication and use featuring wetlands and wetland issues.
c) Assessment of wetland species' populations in existing habitats.
d) Implementation of flexible breeding and re-introduction programmes.
e) Establishment of a data storage and retrieval system.
Project sustainability:
a) The recurrent expenditure of contracted technical expertise after the project will be supported by revenues generated from visitor fees to the Trust and the sale of products of the Trust.
b) The trust has accessed grant funding from many local and international donors which supports its infrastructural and programme-related development activities.
c) The environmental education/public awareness and avicultural programmes are inter-linked and mutually supportive.
