Project Details & Results
The NGO, located in Irbid, north of Jordan, and one of the community development centers of the Jordanian Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) established an olive tree nursery, enhanced an on-going project for home gardens including medicinal herbs and bee keeping, and carried out a training programme for the local community. Twenty five women from the local community participated monthly in project activities. By providing healthy seedlings to the local community, the project helped them to improve the quality of their products, rendering them more competitive. The Center also provided other development centers with quality seedlings and assisted them in establishing their own nurseries. The project produced several outreach materials highlighting messages on different global environmental issues.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
By providing healthey seedlings to the local community, the project helped them to guarantee the quality of their products, making them more marketable.
Gender Focus
A female agricultural engineer was trained and participated in project management, in addition to other women form the local community who were constantly involved in project activities.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Several outreach materials were produced through the project including messages on different global environmental issues.
Project Results
The project enabled the NGO to established an olive tree nursery to produce draught resistance local olive seedlings, the produced seedlings were sold to members of the local community at relatively low price. To sustain project activities the NGO enhanced an on-going project for home gardens including medicinal herbs and bee keeping, and carried out a training programme for the local community.
The NGO also provided other Development Centers with quality seedlings and assisted them in establishing their own nurseries.
