Project Details & Results

The Committee carried out & published a full inventory of Avifauna of Jordan, established birdwatch stations and published a reference on the birds of Jordan in Arabic, which is used by students and bird lovers until now. Work accomplished under this project later qualified Jordan to host Birdlife International/ Middle East Regional Office.
This project improved the capacities of the NGO's Research Unit and made it easier for the people who came later to conduct their work and accomplish their objectives. For the first time a reference in Arabic on the birds of Jordan was made available to specialists and lay people providing them with a new insight to loacl and global avifaunal resources.

Capacity - Building Component
NGO Research Unit's capacities were strengthened through this project which made it easier for the people who came later to conduct their work and accomplish their objectives. Work accomplished under this project later qualified Jordan to host the Birdlife International/ Middle East Regional Office.

Gender Focus
The activities of this project were coordinated by a woman specialist who worked with a team of young women and men of specialists in the field to ahcieve the project's objectives.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
For the first time a reference in Arabic on the birds of Jordan was made available to specialists and lay people providing them with a new insight to local and global avifaunal resources.

Project Results
The project conducted and published a full inventory of Avifauna of Jordan and established bird watch stations. A colorful book about the birds of Jordan was published and the revenues from the book and other products were used to sustain the project activities.

Work accomplished under this project later qualified Jordan to host Birdlife International/ Middle East Regional Office. Birdlife International Regional Office is developing a large regional GEF project on “Soaring Birds”.
