Change started in the year 2000 when a local NGO educated us about using nets. From only two fishermen, the project evolved after we saw great results; many others followed suit switching from cyanide to nets.

SGP grantee ECOTON has received Kalpataru Awards Republic of Indonesia under Category Environmental Saviors for its work on protecting the Brantas River Watershed, Surayabaya, East Java. Sucessful SGP funded projects are INS/SGP/OP4/Y2/RAF/09/01 "Adoption Program to Conserve the Source of Livelihood for Future Generation"  SGP grant total USD 20,000; and  INS/SGP/OP5/STAR/BD/12/19 " The Conservation of Fisheries Resource Through Local Community Participation and Promotion of Local Fish For Climate" SGP grant USD 20,000.

Kelompok Perempuan Nelayan Muara Tanjung is SGP grantee of projects INS/SGP/OP4/RAF/09/16  "Sustainable Coastal Management  & Development of Marine-based Culinary Product" and INS/SGP/OP5/STAR/BD/12/21 "The Management of Mangrove Forest as a Production Facility  & Tourism Education".

2012 - Coastal Award 2012

SGP grantee Belitung Coastal Community Group (BCCG)  is the receiver of the National Coastal Award 2012 under Category " Developing Conservation site through Ecotourism". BCCG received this Award for its work on developing ecotourism in Kepayang Island Indonesia through  SGP funded project :   INS/SGP/OP4/Y1/RAF/07/18 "Improving Coastal Community's Living Standard Through Environmental Friendly and Sustainable Management and Usage of Coral Reef Ecosystem" . SGP grant amount  USD 50,000,  period of implementation: October 2008-March 2010.
