September 2015 - National Youth Award for work in the Environment
SGP grantee partner North East Sea Turtles (NEST) is the receiver of this National Award that is given by the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Child development.
2006 - Zayed International Prize for the Environment
Cropper Foundation, an SGP grantee in Trinidad and Tobago won the prestigious prize. Mrs. Angela Cropper, co-founder and president of the Cropper Foundation, won the 2006 category for Environment Action Leading to Positive Change in Society. SGP Trinidad and Tobago and the Cropper Foundation have also supported the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment which won the category for Scientific and or Technological Achievements in Environment.
2003 - UNESCO International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) Award
GEF/SGP grantee, Radio Toco Project, received the award, which included a US$20,000 cash prize and a plaque. The GEF/SGP provided a grant of US$49,389 to the Radio Toco Project (TRI/95/G52/2101/002) in 1997 to initiate the project 'Radio Toco 106.7 FM', the first community radio station in Trinidad and Tobago. The grant assisted the Radio Toco Project in conducting a community survey in the development of the programming content and the broadcast schedule of "Radio Toco"; the development of a marketing strategy to address the sustainability of "Radio Toco", and human resource strengthening of "Radio Toco" in the first year of operation. Significant co-funding for this initiative was also provided by UNESCO (radio equipment) and by the British High Commission.
