This publication shows how much progress has been made in defining the goals, planning processes, funding mechanisms, and monitoring systems needed to make sustainable landscape management a reality. The case studies provide valuable examples of the COMDEKS approach and the improvements in ecosystem services, and rural productivity, income, and community empowerment that result.The publication is comprised of two parts:Part I summarizes the defining principles of the COMDEKS community-based landscape management approach, and sets out the step-by-step process used to apply the approach.Part II presents up-to-date case material for each of the ten countries participating in Phase II of the COMDEKS Programme. This material describes the target landscapes, sets the local context of environmental, social, and economic conditions and challenges; describes the participatory landscape planning process; enumerates local program activities; and reports preliminary findings. Part II ends with a short consideration of what the COMDEKS Programme has achieved, how these insights can be applied both within and beyond UNDP, and the challenges that lie ahead for the COMDEKS community-based landscape approach.

October 2013 - Africa Reginal Commonwealth Youth Worker
This award is in recognition of SGP grantee Rural Women Development Centre (RUWDC) work with young people and community. RUWDC in partnership with Barefoot College has contributed toward gender equity improvements, women empowerment through capacity building on solar energy appliances installation and maintenance and enhanced the literacy of rural women in small business management. On receiving her award Ms Yonga, coordinator of RWWDC said: “A lot of young people do not believe in themselves and that is why I talk to young people in my country to let them know that they can make things happen.”
June 2016 - Energy Globe Award
The receiver of this Award is Ms. Nelly Shella Tchaptcheut Yonga, the visionary youth leader of SGP grantee partner Rural Women Development Center.
The initiative of the GEF SGP grantee partner is a project on Solar electrification CMR/SGP/OP5/Y4/CORE/CC/14/01.

2015 - Challenge Climate innovation Prize
SGP grantee partner Groupe D’initiative Commune Des Agriculteurs Professionnels Du Cameroun (GIC AGRIPO) received this International Award in the area of “Climate change mitigation in agriculture and livestock sectors” during Paris International Agriculture Fair 2015.

2008 - Women's Empowerment UN Red Ribbon Award
Ntankah Village Women Common Initiative Group brings a gender and development approach to the HIV response in rural communities in the Northwest Province of Cameroon. The group provides culturally sensitive prevention programs that promote understanding and encourage HIV positive women to give live testimonies regarding their status. The group's Mother Center is an entry point and resource center that assists widows, orphans and other children vulnerable as a result of AIDS. The center trains members to administer home- based care, and has also organized paralegal watchdog groups that document widows' rights violations. Local-to-local dialogues have convinced traditional leaders to admit women into the formerly exclusive male traditional councils, empowered women to run in municipal elections, and placed women's issues on the development and political agenda.
