Thanks to the project funded by SGP, the Guides, Guards, and various members of the APJM staff have acquired basic knowledge concerning seed collection, storage, planting, and seedling maintenance.

SGP projects supported , documented and influenced:

  • At national level: new national strategic plan for the ministry of Energy and hydraulics took around 80% of the recommendations of SGP project Formulation of policies on climate change (LEB/OP3/1/05/06).

  • At local level: Flora and fauna data was created for the eldest protected area Bentael reserve. A new biosphere reserve was established in Jabal Mousa. The nearest forest to beirut city (Baabda) was protected. The biggest Cedar forest was established in Bsharrie area.

Successful projects scaled up and replicated:

  • ILO green Jobs initiative adopted the strategy of LEB/OP3/1/05/07: PROJECT FOR THE DECREASE OF POPS AT NABATIYEH as their priority in the region.

  • A prototype of cooperation between local authorities, private sector and civil society for solar heaters was established in Arab Salim village. And for forest fire prevention and control in Rmaish area.

SGP activity in figures:

  • Areas protected, rehabilitated or sustainably managed: over 250,000ha of protected areas were supported through better cooperation with different stakeholders in the area.
