Protection of the water buffalos as an endanger species
With the increase of the buffalo population, the AC Biosfera intended to initiate activities for sustainable development of the village of Debreste (central part of Macedonia). All activities in the project are in direction of protection of the water buffalos as endangered species, boost production of dairy products (mozzarella cheese) as an important source of income and create possibilities for rural and eco tourism. 20 families’ breeders of the water buffalos had direct benefit from the project, especially women that are involved in dairy production and dairy products. Within the project the following goals were set:
Protection of the water buffalo population
Promotion of the biological diversity as a tool for rural eco tourism development
Creating strategic documents that will ensure water buffalo protection.

Initiated protection of the water buffalos and doubled the number of population; Two informative sighs with information on buffalos were prepared and placed in village Debreste; two public paths toward the buffalo cites for interested visitors were marked;
Project sustainability
It is expected that at least 5 families will maintain breeding water buffaloes and produce diary products as a income source, thus creating sustainability
