Biodiversity Protection through Income Diversification and Raising Awareness in Ajloun Area
The project aims to contribute to the protection of biodiversity in Ajloun area through raising awareness and supporting interventions that would improve and diversify income family sources. These interventions would include construction of water collection wells, planting medicinal and herbal plants, installation of water solar heaters to alleviate pressure on forest wood, as well as other agricultural production interventions. The project will also build the capacities of the Women Farmers Union in order to become able to assume its desired role in local community development. It will also work to build an effective and sustainable partnership with the Ajloun Nature Reserve aimed at harmonizing conservation and sustainable agricultural development, and environmental awareness.

Policy Influence
Policy implemented to influence and enhance the diversification of income sources through promoting production of medicinal plants and improving the level of environmental awareness. The project objectives are the following: - Develop a set of agricultural activities that would contribute to agricultural development in Ajloun. - Implement awareness programmes on the importance of biodiversity and the integration of conservation efforts with maintaining agricultural development of the area. - Build the capacities of the Union of Women Farmers technically and institutionally to enable it to assume its development role within the local community. - Develop an effective and sustainable partnership between the Union and the Ajloun Reserve to enhance agricultural development and environmental awareness in Ajloun area.
Notable Community Participation
The local community, especially owners of agricultural lands adjacent to the forests, will be involved in all environmental awareness programmes within the project activities, through exchange of experiences and capacity building.
