Mountain hayfields - hot spots of biodiversity and traditional culture
Mountain hayfields - hot spots of biodiversity and traditional culture
The project aims to facilitate the sustainable use of hay meadows, and thus maintain high biodiversity and ecosystem services for the health of local communities. A survey of biodiversity in hay meadows will be undertaken for two communes (Pauleni Ciuc and Lunca de Jos). Integrated management plans will be developed and promoted for two demonstration areas as well. The ultimate goal of the project is to help increase the community incomes from traditional land use practices by raising the price of raw milk and facilitating the production of new milk products through training. It is estimated that the project will add value to hay meadows and motivate farmers for a sustainable use of their land.
