Environmental population is a global problem that we face every day. It causes high energy consumption and continuous pollution of the environment in which we live. High energy consumption is equivalent to greater emissions of greenhouse gases in the environment and increased pollution.
By saving energy and by using it efficiently we greate a cleaner environment, save energy resources for future generations and, of course, reduce the monthly financial budget that should be spent for electricity.
The decentralization reforms have set many new responsibilities to local authorities and the process of building capacities of all relevant capacities progresses relatively slowly. As a result, the programs required by the Energy Law, have not been adopted yet. Besides the authority to implement energy policies on local level, local authorities are obliged to have local policies on energy efficiency and renewable resources as well. They also need to adopt a plan for implementation and monitoring of the program. These specific responsibilities of local authorities require specific capacity, which is still not present.
Improvements in energy efficiency are related to the reduction of energy used for certain sectors, including the lighting. Replacement of traditional light bulbs with new energy efficient light bulbs is one of applied measures to save energy because:
- Has the best financial cost (investment / saving)
- Is the simplest measure of implementation,
- A measure that does not require much time for implementation and does not require specific qualification for the replacement of the lights bulbs.
One of the most important factors for approving the idea of energy efficiency is the slower consumption of fossil full which is the main starter of the energy systems in the world. The implementations of the measures for energy savings are offering more benefits. One of the most important is the contribution in the protection of the environment, the reduction of CO2 emissions and the green house gases. Also our activities will contribute in the reduction of usage of fossil fuels and the direct reduction of the nature’s destruction. Besides this the social-economical contributions are very important. With the implementation of the energy efficiency measures there will be means savings and the comfort of living will be improved. With this aspect there can be achieved an investment of energy companies and the government with the direct improvement of the system with which there can be saved many means and energy. On the other side, the households and the public buildings with a little afford and investments, we can improve their situation and of course influence the reduction of the global energy consumption and the protection of the environment. The correct way of exploitation of the energy in the households and in the public buildings is to realize the right way of using and maintaining the heating objects, lighting, insulation of windows and doors, insulation of the wools floor and the roofs, installation of solar systems, etc. The final target of this project is the reduction of the consumption of fossil fuels for energetic purposes and the reduction of the greenhouse and other kind of gases in the atmosphere.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Based on the assessment report on the condition of the buildings, a range of energy-efficient measures were taken: reconstruction, insulation and replacing of old wooden windows and doors with new ones and 470 energy-efficient bulbs were installed; Forecasted reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases by at least 12.58 tones of CO2/annually and achieved saving around 19.2% in the project facilities in the Municipality Aracinovo; Number of individuals who have benefited from SGP project - 2095
