Use of renewable energy sources for energy and hot-water supply to International School Center of Berkuchi “Kusbegi” and heat supply to elementary school “Kairakty”
Project aim:
Demonstration of alternative energy use possibilities – sun and wind as free sources for power supply as well as implementation of energy efficiency technologies based on example of berkutchi school and heating the building of elementary school ‘Kairakty’

Project tasks:
- Provide sustainable autonomous power supply of Berkutchi School by combined use of solar and wind energy by thought the instrumentality of wind power plant of 7 kilowatt, photoelectric transducer of 2,76 7 kilowatt and accumulator battery of cell voltage 48 W and 400 ampere-hour.
- Introduce energy efficiency furnace in elementary school ‘Kairakty’ for heating the building during cold periods
- Promote project experience on local and national levels

Project results:
- Improved conditions for locals, living and studying in Berkutchi School by proving autonomous power and hot water supply from alternative energy sources
- Improved conditions for children, studying in elementary school ‘Kairakty’ by heating the building with energy efficiency furnace on solid fuel
- Created about 8 additional jobs in Berkutchi School and elementary school in the field of the buildings effective heating and electrification
- Created new local rural environmental NGOs and increased its role in environmental problems decision
- Increased level of environmental education and environmental activities of locals
- Decreased poverty rate of about 15-18 families in connection with work of two schools
- Revived traditional kind of hunting with birds of prey (golden eagles) by 2-years training about 230-240 berkutchi

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Improved conditions for locals, living and studying in Berkutchi School by proving autonomous power and hot water supply from alternative energy sources. Improved conditions for children, studying in elementary school ‘Kairakty’ by heating the building with energy efficiency furnace on solid fuel. Created about eight additional jobsites for the locals.
Capacity - Building Component
In two years about 240-250 locals trained on practical skills of hunting with birds of prey. Schools’ teachers and workers trained to work with power supply equipment (including wind power plant, photoelectric transducer and accumulator battery). Different educational events held for locals on environmental problems solving by alternative energy use.
