Improving the performance of environmental information in the Republic of Moldova to comply with European standards
The project aims at development of an internet service – Public Service on Environmental Data (PSED) based on WEB GIS technologies to help NGOs in environmental data collection in accordance with international standards (INSPIRE), data analysing and reporting and their use in environmental protection initiatives.
Project objectives:
- Development of data collection, processing and distribution mechanism for NGOs;
- Development of a web portal based on GIS technologies for secure upload/download of environmental data by NGOs and general public;
- Training of NGOs and knowledge transfer on PSED.
Project will be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, "E-Government Center" Public Institution (in charge with improvement of governance quality through a wide application of the Information and Communication Technologies), Alliance of Access to Information and Training Community Centres – Moldova (contributing to the consolidation of the information society and to the sustainable development of civil society by reducing the digital divide phenomenon and by involving citizens in the decision-making process) and Trimetrica Ltd (official representative of the Company “Esri Inc”. (Environmental Systems Research Institute, California, USA)).
Project includes activities on NGOs training, public environmental monitoring and participation in decision-making processes.

Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
All the decisions taken during the project will apply the principle of gender equality, which is founded daily in the process of decision making, as well as during the project's implementation. The project will emphasize the informational resources distribution among men and women in different environmental fields, in order to ensure and equitable society. Women were actively involved in all stages of project implementation. Initially the project assistant was represented by a woman, after which she took over the position of project manager. The training organized within the project were facilitated by 3 men and 3 women. An active women involvement in workshops/seminars, demonstrate that they are a strong core in promoting the project’s ideas and results more diligent and active. Most of the men involved in the training sessions had previous experiences of involvement in other projects, which added value to the group of training sessions.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Along with the organized seminars during the project implementation, there will be invited television organizations for video reports and prepare information for newspapers and magazines. Educational materials for seminars and online training will be developed by the Alliance of Community Centers for Access to Information and Training. along with the Alliance of Community Centers for Access to Information and Training, Oikumena organization will elaborate video materials, guides, which through the WEB portal of Public Environmental Data Service, will serve as training for all those interested in environmental issues.
