Consolidation between NGO and local public authorities and activation of civil society in the struggle for the protection of resources and the quality of potable water in Bugeac steppe
The goal of this project is to offer information to NGOs, local public authorities and local population about accordance of drinking water to sanitary and epidemiological requirements from sources near Comrat, Chadyr-Lunga, Vulcanesti in native language of communication.
The problem of drinking water is very important in the Republic of Moldova. Only 17% of the rural population has access to drinking water supplied through a centralized system. The most important source of drinking water in rural areas is shallow wells which are all over the country for more than 132.000, and which are using easily accessible groundwater. It is believed that their daily consumption is about 50.000 m3. An additional source are the springs which are much less numerous. Most groundwater sources do not correspond to the quality standards and requirements for drinking water, especially in the south and central regions of the country, due to the high concentration of harmful chemicals (fluoride, iron, hydrogen sulphide, chlorides, sulphates) and excessive salinity because of the poor carbonate soils and salt clays the water is passing through. On the territory of Gagauzia lives 155,600 people or 4.6% of the population. Most of the population - 62.6% live in rural areas.
According to the data of the Center of Public Health of the Ministry of Health. The water used in the regions in alimentation leads to 20-25% of cases acute diarrheal, diseases and hepatitis A (HAV) and 25-30% of somatic diseases.
Traditionally, because of inappropriate water quality, the most affected age group is represented by children up to 2 years, followed by the group of 3-6 years old. 55% to 75% of patients of 3-6 years are children institutionalized, this being an indicating fact of the significant short comings in compliance of the regime of inappropriate use of water from opened water sources.
The purpose of this project is to inform the NGOs,local public authorities and local rural population (ethnic minorities) on the right to a healthy environment, the correct use of water and the effect of water quality on human health and life. Indicate the possibility and the importance of informing the public through NGOs.
NGOs allow citizens to improve their society , engaging in propaganda and educational work , drawing attention to important social problems and controlling the actions of the government and private entrepreneurs

NGOs allow representatives of different walks of life to learn to work together and develop the skills , attitudes and confidence necessary for proper management .
