Reduction of the CO2 emission in the Municipal Primary School “Goce Delchev” in Bosilovo by replacing fossil fuel with biomass
Reduction of the CO2 emission in the Municipal Primary School “Goce Delchev” in Bosilovo by replacing fossil fuel with biomass
160 students (first to ninth graders) currently attend the “Goce Delchev” Municipal Primary School in the population center of Bosilovo, coming from four settlements - Bosilovo, Ednokukjevo, Robovo and Saraj. The number of teaching and technical staff in the school is 30 people in total.
The total area of the school is entirely on the ground floor and amounts to a total of 1,100 m2, of which the heating area of the school building is 973 m2.
Central heating system has been installed in the school building, oil-operated. This energy source is considered to be a serious pollutant of the environment due to the discharge of CO2.
Having in mind the current condition and the existing pollution, our Association decided to direct this project towards the reduction of the polluting discharge.
The idea is to replace the two oil boilers with boilers which operate on pellet as an energy source in order to generate heat. Apart from the reduction of the pollution caused by the greenhouse gases, financial resources will also be saved, which can afterwards be used by the school or the local self-government in Bosilovo for similar initiatives or problems.
This project is in accordance with the central project area “Climate change”, and also fulfils the following other criteria:
• the project has measurable effects by precisely established indicators and practical benefits for the environment
• it builds on the partnership with the local self-government at a local level
• it is replicative and can be repeated several times
• has a developing component for construction of capacities for the Association and the community (monitoring and evaluation)
• has an educational component (organization of workshops)
• includes dissemination of information and experience among other subjects (flyers, press, information to the media).
This project directly solves the problem referring to the protection of the environment through reduction of the CO2 discharge and reduction of the disease risk as a result of the polluted environment. It also creates opportunities for investment in environmental projects by saving financial resources.
