Improving of the energy efficiency of Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostushe
Improving of the energy efficiency of Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostushe
Environmental pollution in local areas in the Republic of Macedonia is a problem that we face daily, and in circumstances where survival is a daily challenge not choose means and ways to provide basic living conditions. It involves high energy consumption, continuous pollution of the environment in their local communities and of course scant family budget due to high costs of energy bills. Great energy consumption is equivalent to greater emissions of greenhouse gases in the environment and increased pollution.
Traditional methods for the exploitation of the energy of the population in local communities include uncontrolled spending of existing resources in order to meet basic needs. Improving energy efficiency is essential in order to conserve limited resources and reduce climate change. This recommendation also contained in the First and Second National Communication of the Republic of Macedonia in relation to the UN Framework Convention (UNFCC), prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
Energy costs represent a large part of the municipal budget of Mavrovo and Rostushe. Complete or partial implementation of energy efficiency measures will significantly reduce energy consumption and costs; while at the same time will reduce the transmission of CO2 in the air.
By replacing light fixtures with energy-saving light bulbs will contribute to a reduction in electricity consumption and therefore to reduce the emission of CO2 emission in the atmosphere. On the other hand, the project will directly contribute to creating sustainable system energy efficiency through the development of a strategy involved municipality, which is their legal obligation. During the preparation of the strategy will be used the experience of municipalities that already have produced such a strategy (Bogovinje), and in relation to other activities will be used the experience of previous SGP grantees that have implemented projects in this area.

The aim of the project is to create conditions for reducing climate change in the rural municipalities of Polog – Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostushe through improved energy efficiency in street lighting, awareness raising and capacity building of stakeholders involved in issues related to energy efficiency.

Specific objectives:
SO 1: Reduce power consumption by applying the principles of energy efficiency by replacing lighting fixtures;

SO 2: To strengthen the capacity of municipal governments to create and implement energy efficiency programs.

SO 3: Raising awareness on climate change, energy savings and the advantage of using renewable energy sources, through educational workshops and printed materials;
