?Community Based Coastal Resources Management Project: A Strategy Towards Unifying Fisherfolk sector in Davao Gulf Area?
The project is a comprehensive strategy that seeks to address the multi-faceted issues affecting the coastal environment through the active and meaningful participation of coastal communities such as indigenous/ badjao?s, communities and women leaders.
More importantly, it seeks to address the core issues of open-access and control over their local resources.
Objectives:
The project aims to institutionalize the major role of the local fisherfolk sector (indigenous/Badjao community, youth and women leader) and other resources users in the community ? based planning and implementation of policies and programs for the protection and management of coastal and marine environment in Davao Gulf.
Specifically the project also aims to:
1. Enhance understanding and awareness on the importance in protecting, conserving and managing the coastal and marine environment.
2. Organize the Badjao?s Communities and women sector for empowerment and development of their sectors,
3. Develop 25 cores effective Leaders including indigenous or Badjao communities an women fisherfolk leader who will in turn help in managing and protecting the coastal and marine resources in the area.
4. Conduct capability building seminar and training on legal and jurisdictional status on coastal and marine resources.
5. Formulate applicable coastal and marine environment management plan.
6. Establishment of mangrovetum and nursery area for the rehabilitation of the specific and identified project area.
7. Conduct cross visit/study tour to successful community based coastal based coastal resource management project.
