Dong Yai Baffled Forest Ecosystems Rehabilitation
Target Population/Location of project:
300 families in three tambols of Pakham District, 80% of which support themselves by farming. The project area is an ecological portion of the Indo-Chinese Sub-region.
Planned activities:
1. Creation of tree nursery; reforestation of erosion-retarding species along buffer zones
2. Community-led forest surveillance
3. Capacity building activities for CBOs
4. Dissemination of project activities and results to a wider audience
Anticipated outputs:
1. 70% reduction in forest encroachment into the buffer zones and Dong Yai Forest
2. Additional 900 trees planted per ha; reduced land erosion rate
3. 50% reduction in illegal logging
4. 50% increase in income of project members
5. Community leaders, CBOs, and youth groups display capacity to manage natural resources sustainably
