Environmental Security and Women's Empowerment
The project carries out tasks related to nursery site selection and preparation; supplying the necessary inputs and tools for the nursery; water pump & reservoir provision; seedling production (fruit & other trees); identification of forestation sites; free seedling distribution on Tree Day; plantation/forestation; preparing demonstration site for vegetable production; organising training on vegetable growing; providing the inputs needed for vegetable production for women; formation and facilitation of Self Help Groups (SHGs); PRA and community mapping to target poor women to involve in SHGs; training of SHG members on basic concepts of SHG, saving & loan management, civic & women?s right.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Building of local government line offices and officials and community capacity with respect to environmental interventions, building partnership and community-based organizations in taking ownership of the project, with SWDA taking a consultative and monitoring role throughout. This will be done through the involvement of Cooperative Office staff in formation and support of local Cooperatives; participation of DAs in community training programs, women?s participation in M&E and that of government staff in monitoring project implementation.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Improving the livelihood of the community through introduction of diversified farming practice and appropriate technology, helping vulnerable people realize their potential and organizing them as groups and introducing the concept of institution building so that they gain a new sense of identity and purpose, and formation of cooperatives to build momentum towards self-sufficiency and a more resilient civil society.
