Combating Land Degradation through the development of Organic Agriculture in Saint Lucia.
The goal of this project is to "equip Saint Lucian farmers with the tools of organic and sustainable land management practices through the promotion of soil conservation, soil regeneration, and participatory planning systems for sustainable land use. The proposed project activities include:

? The establishment of one acre in demonstrations plots around the island managed by select farmers who will be trained in organic farming techniques. These sites will serve as demonstration farms for viewing by farmers and the general public.

? The hosting of four introductory training and capacity building workshops on principles of organic farm production for interested local farmers

? The initiation of a one year sensitization campaign to inform St. Lucian`s about the benefits of organic and sustainable farming, the health benefits of organic food and the importance of soil conservation..

It is envisage that the project will result in the reduction of top soil lost, reduction in the use of chemical pollution of soils and water courses, creation of favourable habitats for wildlife, and increased awareness of the benefits of organic farming.
