Farm Animal Genetic Resources Survey and fixing property rights in Syria
Farm Animal Genetic Resources Survey and fixing property rights in Syria
Syria owns a wide variety of world-famous animal genetic resources that enjoy high economic value in Syria and the Middle East. During the past few decades, and due to active demand, several countries in and outside the Middle East started to acquire and breed these animal types, which makes it more important to take necessary legal procedures in order to protect their intellectual property rights.
yet no study for genetic diversity of farm animal genetic resources has been conducted on the molecular level due to the high cost of defining the DNA fingerprint, and the lack of expertise in this field.
The project seeks to establish a national Syrian record for genetic resources of local farm animal, and to support issuing a law for protecting the Intellectual Property Rights of these resources.
