Expansion of organic farming and integrated traditional cropping for improving village sustainable livelihood in subsistence farming-organic vegetable garden, crops, fruit trees and medicinal plants Gataivai Women
The Village of Gataivai depends largely on agriculture to support families in the community. Most families own a plantation, and the major problem in the village is the large areas of fallow land left unused due to poor land management from land clearance for subsistence agriculture use and over use of pesticides. The village project is expanding and it will be the start of pesticide phase-out for the community.

- Lack of available water resources to water garden
- More tools needed for farming
- Training of women on how to manage organic garden and the looking at certification of farms


Specific objective: The project discourages the use of pesticides in farming and plantations, and the project site will demonstrate the benefits of organic produce to the village community;

Objective:
1. The project has expanded to other type of vegetables (traditional vegetables) and the planting of medicinal plants.
Outputs:
1. Develop a village policy to phase-out the use of pesticides and promote organic farming through the use of composting and other appropriate alternatives;
2. Train women and men on sustainable land management through appropriate techniques for improve soil fertility
3. Develop a greenhouse and water tanks for the breeding of seedlings that can be use for the community garden and distributed to all women of the community to set-up their own home gardens for family consumption
4. Develop income-generating activities for women to enable them sustain the projects, through small business in selling produce, and working towards certification of products
5. Project reporting on financial and narrative reports and monitoring of activities
