Tree planting project at Makundushi half mile reserve strip.

The project aims at planting trees of various species of hard and soft wood on the half mile strip of Makundushi village for sustainable supply of forest products tothe community needs. The project will also carry out training to the community and village leaders on environmental conservation activities. the project will involve Primary schools on environmental awareness by planting trees around school compounds. The project will contribute to conservation of the half mile strip area by planting about 50,000 seedlings on bare areas.The project has planned to achieve tree planting on 50 acres of bare areas of the half mile strip in Makundushi Village.

Project sustainability

The project sustainability lies on the sale of grafted fruit tree seedlings.

Project Results

-The project has managed to plant trees in 20 hectors of bare land of the half mile strip area while the proposed plan was to plant only 2.5 hectors.
-The group members and the local communities after planting the trees they have access to collect gressess for their cattle in areas close to their homes and far from the Natural forest of Mt. kilimanjaro. Collecting firewood, timber, medicine and grassess inside the natural forest of mountain Kilimanjaro is illegal.
