"Green Patrols - Reliable Nature Guards"
As the events of the first decade of the 21st century show, global climate change has caused an ecological cataclysm in many countries in all parts of the world and is causing enormous damage to the economies and environments of those countries. It has had a negative impact on the population and the environment of the Republic of Tajikistan, including the mountainous areas of East Khatlon (Khovaling, Muminabad and Shurabad). The deterioration of the environment is responsible for the migration of people from their places and the deterioration of their material well-being. The increase of the average annual temperature in Tajikistan by 2 degrees is a real disaster for the inhabitants of the Republic engaged in agriculture. This means, on the one hand, drought in areas of agricultural production, and on the other hand the melting of glaciers, which is causing flooding in rivers, as well as changes in precipitation. The majority of the country's population is heavily dependent on natural resources for livelihoods, as well as exposed to environmental hazards, in particular desertification, water pollution and effects of natural disasters, including droughts and floods. The dramatic deterioration in the supply of electricity, natural gas, coal and other fossil energy sources in the 1990s has resulted in a large increase in forest felling on mountain slopes, and in the destruction of perennial plantations in population centers. As a result of the prolonged uncontrolled destruction of sloped forests, the desertification of mountains is increasing, causing erosion of land cover, and thus often provoke landslides and mudflows. The project is closely linked to national programmes. Since 2000, the "National Programme of Action to Combat Desertification in Tajikistan" is under implementation. Since 1 September 2006, the "National Strategy and Plan of Action for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity" is under implementation. The issues of improving the environmental situation and protecting the environment also hold an important place in the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan
The Tajik Red Crescent Society, through this project, intends to participate in environmental and environmental improvements and has planned an information campaign aimed at increasing environmental awareness and climate change through the expansion of green patrol groups working in Khovaling, Shurabad and Muminabad districts. It provides for the involvement of the Committees on Ecology and Environment, the Departments of Agriculture, Forestry, Public Education, representatives of civil society and the media.
