Update on Tranch 1 implementation:
1. The set up of the project management structure as the project governing body and the Project Management Committee (PMC) being the implementation team/ completed. The management structural alignment to cultural setting played a fundamental role to empower social inclusion in the decision making process and active participation in project implementation.
2. The first phase of the small scale irrigation system was completed at a total cost of PGK43, 182.70 (US$13,258.43). The contractor?s work performance was very good. The contractor?s material requirements were timely purchased and made available readily on site. The activity started and ended on schedule. The irrigation water is now flowing through the existing pipe system. However community efforts to repair existing pipe system is ongoing including the set up of the irrigation system management for ownership and sustainability. The community voluntary support and contributions including hard labor, local materials (sand and stones) and food supply (store and garden goods) without monetary compensation was highly commendable.
