Connecting Cooperatives to the SDGs and commencing the formative stages of building climate change resilience in the Fisheries Sector in Saint Lucia.
A project focused on fisheries sector in Saint Lucia, with priority given to the fishers in the southern administrative quarter of Saint Lucia. Fishers will be re-introduced to cooperative principles through the SDGs, while specifically focusing on CCM and CCA. The goal is ?to enable fishers and fisher organisations to mitigate the effects of climate change and to upgrade their knowledge base on cooperative governance and management?. The objectives are: ?(i) To increase the knowledge of 36 fishers on climate change and the cooperative philosophy by November 2018; (ii) To improve the knowledge of 36 fishers on the SDGs and the role they play in achieving sustainable development by November 2018; (iii) To introduce alternative strategies to 36 fishers that will enable them to design projects which will assist then with climate change mitigation and adaptation within the context of CC; and (iv) To undertake a comprehensive summative evaluation of the impacts of the project on the beneficiaries?. A major project in CCM and IW is expected to emerge from this first project.
