Mitigating negative climate effects by abating the consequences of the bark beetle epidemics in Krasnapollie District of MahilioU Region.
Project goal: 1) Mitigate negative climate effect by abating the consequences of the bark beetle epidemics in Krasnapollie District of MahilioU Region. 2) Demonstrate and disseminate the monitoring methods and technologies capable of abating the bark beetle emergence threat and forest felling in future. 3) Reinforce partnership between state environmental institutions, environmental NGOs, local communities and business for addressing environmental problems.
Project tasks:
1. Restore bark beetle-affected lands with subsequent forest plantation as a contribution to negative climate effect mitigation. 2. Develop a bark beetle monitoring system. 3. Establish a nursery for growing seedlings and transplants for sustainable afforestation of bark beetle-affected lands. 4. Conduct an awareness raising campaign and disseminate the project experience in Krasnapollie District of Mahilio? Region.Expected results:
1. Restoration of damaged lands by a beetle bark with a subsequent planting of plantations as a contribution to mitigating the negative impact of climate change. 1.1.Ecological results - 45 hectares of land damaged by the bark beetle have been restored. Reduced greenhouse gas emissions due to increased forest cover of the territories. The lands are returned to economic circulation and are used ecologically. 1.2. The result of the project implementation for local communities will be the restoration of the forest area affected by the beetle bark beetle printer.
2. Formation of a monitoring system for a beetle bark beetle. 2.1. A monitoring system was developed using pheromone traps and a quadrocopter, which is capable of detecting infection in real time in the earliest stages. 3. Creation of a nursery for the cultivation of seedlings and seedlings of tree species for the sustainable afforestation of lands affected by the bark beetle bug beetle
3.1. 15 kg of seeds of mixed forest cultures of invasive rocks for cultivation of 500 thousand pieces were purchased. seedlings and seedlings, which are not susceptible to infection by a bark beetle-typographer.
4. Conduct a broad information company and disseminate the experience of project implementation in the Krasnopol district of the Mogilev region.
4.1. Conducting a training seminar for school-age children using non-formal education methods. Formation of motivation of children of school age to conduct environmentally friendly way of life and safety in the forest (at least 50 people). 4.2. Carrying out PR-action. Practical implementation of the activities of the project initiative to involve the public in the restoration of lands affected by the bark beetle bug (300 people). 4.3. Final seminar on summing up the results of the project. Dissemination of the experience gained in the implementation of the project initiative among local authorities (at least 30 people).
