Review land use management plans, climate change and promote REDD+ in the Adelbert forest conservation project
This project will be taking place in the Adelbert Range, in the Madang Province. This area received much attention from international NGO The Nature Conservancy, who worked closely with local communities in the area to set aside their land for protection. This was one of the first places that advanced with local area protection through the enactment of a Local environment Law, empowering communiteis to set aside their customary land. When the NGO exited the country, the communities continued to undertake conservation work, but not at the level previously undertaken with assistance from TNC. This project intends to look into reviewing the management plan of the proposed conservation area, empower women to participate in forest area protection, implement biological monitoring of the area and work in close partnership with government.
