Capacity building of local communities of Helleh Protected Area to develop sustainable livelihoods and ecotourism related businesses
Overall objective / activities to be implemented under the grant:
As one of the most important aquatic ecosystems in Bushehr Province, the Helleh Wetland has suffered numerous damages caused by human activities in recent years, including over-utilization of the wetland?s water resources, land-use change, intentional fires, excessive forage harvesting, grazing livestock exceeding the ecological capacity of the wetland and last but not least the economic problems after the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the local communities? pressure on the Wetland.
The project objectives for a comprehensive management of the wetland are, empowering the local community in the development of livelihoods consistent with the wetland ecosystem through the development and implementation of a training program based on the needs analysis of the local community, planning an ecotourism process and basic ecotourism activities in the area of Helleh Wetland with a community-centered approach, increasing the awareness and sensitivity of the local community towards the situation of Helleh Wetland and strengthening the spirit of accountability among the youth, women and villages around the Wetland.
