Protection of river bank of the Attanagalu river by replanting eroded spots & other activities by Attanagalla Parisara Surekeeme Sanvidanaya
Rationale:
The Attanagalu river has been subject to severe erosion in the recent past. The reservation is almost gone in this particular section and the river is at the doorstep of some of the houses.
Main activities:
Protect a section of the river bank replanting eroded spots, organise the communities in villages on both sides of the river bank which is being subject to heavy erosion, propose alternative income generating activities.
Construct bathing places to prevent villagers from using the river for such purposes and to prevent cattle from being led to water.
Rush and reed cultivation in the nearby lowlands and promote reed based products as an alternative to polythene.
Implement a land use pattern plan and create awareness among people on conservation of land associated with the Attanagalu river.
Competitions on plant nurseries, plant protection, land etc to encourage community participation.
