Sustainable Cotton Farming and Conservation of the Agricultural Ecosystem in Dara Ghazi Khan.
To protect agricultural eco-system by mobilizing farmers in the project area for better information regarding agricultural practies through creating a farmer support network. Also to spread community awareness about the adverse effects of pesticide overuse through traditional Saraiki Theatre as a communication tool. Executed by HIRAK Development Organisation.
The goal of the project is to protect biodiversity and control pollution. The purpose is to protect the agricultural ecosystem of 2 union councils in D.G Khan District.
The proposed activities include the provision of technical training provided for the proper application of pesticides to social organizers and social activists, the use of theater to convey key messages about the use of pesticide and dangers of its overuse.
CBO heads and CBO?s would be educated in use of pesticides, technical training provided to social organizers, social activists and CBO heads in pest control.
The anticipated result would be education of the community educated in the use of pesticides, use of pesticides on cotton crop reduced, health hazards to human beings and animals reduced, hunting and shooting of birds and animals would be reduced and the community support and management system would be put in place
