Environmental Friendly Workshop for Traditional Handcrafts in Sahl El-Daw
The project addresses the problems of soil degradation, desertification and deterioration of the vegetation cover in the Steppe area by establishing a fully-equipped workshop for traditional handcrafts, introducing the workshop as an environmental awareness center, and supporting a micro-finance mechanism in order to encourage income-generating, eco-friendly projects.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
1- Conducting a training course that aims at reviving traditional handcrafts, transfer of traditional heritage from older to younger generation of women, in addition to building capacity of the local community mainly the women through creating income sources for woman.
2- The workshop would play a role in spreading awareness on environmental issue by being the place where actors and stakeholders meet
3- Establishment and support of a fund for financing eco-friendly projects, which would help in creating a qualified young generation.
Gender Focus
Due to strict traditions, no income sources are available for women, who, therefore, are totally dependent of their male family members. The proposed project will offer women the chance to express their abilities and reach independence by producing handmade products of material and artistic value.
