The Women Unit in Palmyra is the administrative unit that represents the Women Union in the area. The board of the women unit consists of seven members that jointly perform management and administrational tasks (vocational training, cultural activities, publication and media). The unit depends on membership fees solely. The close collaboration with the local community, mainly women, enables the unit to play an effective role in influencing the community. Additionally, the administrational structure which is based on smaller units distributed in all targeted villages allows conducting activities of vocational training and environment awareness on the household level. Although the unit has a long term experience in conducting similar activities, this experience however was limited and on small scale; therefore, the project will be implemented by close collaboration with consultants on the components related to the management, evaluation, marketing, and promotion plans.

the project will providing an additional income for the rural households of Sahl El Daw through conducting training programmes on production of traditional handcrafts, exhibiting and marketing the production. additionally, the project will give young men and women in Sahl El-Daw the opportunity to get small funds for receiving specialized, career-based training courses, after which they will get the opportunity to practice the career that they were trained for. This microfinance mechanism will be one way to guarantee sustainability of the project.

the workshop will be an environmental awareness center where eco-training courses and programs are conducted. Renewable energy will be used for heating and power generation as an ideal example for relationship with the environment.
