Capacity Building and Supporting Initiatives on Sustainable Agriculture and Promoting Agro-Biodiversity in Selected States of Peninsular Malaysia
The project aims to raise the awareness, support and build the capacity of farmers to adopt environmentally, socially and economically friendlier sustainable agriculture while enhancing the conservation and sustainable use of agro-biodiversity. CAP's strategy is to rapidly move towards the adoption and implementation of "environmentally friendlier" and sustainable agriculture policies and practisesby raising critical awareness and constructive option among farmers and government officials on the manifold social, economic and environmental benefits of lower input agriculture. At farm level, training and adequate capacity building advisory services would be provided to the farmers to enable them to adopt and implement the environmentally friendlier technologies of sustainable agriculture while also simultaneously conserving and sustainably using agro-biodiversity. Further, the education of consumers is also critical in encouraging the consumption of chemical free produce, so that farmers have a market for such products.
