Introduction of Fuel Efficient Stoves to reduce the consumption of fuelwood by almost 50% thereby saving a number of trees.
The GEF SGP has been collaborating with WFP since 2004 in the area of the provision of fuel efficient stoves and as of now have provided 117 numbers of 100 ltr capacity stoves and 22 no. of 75 ltr capacity of stoves to community, primary and lower secondary schools of Bhutan. The collaboration has been in the co-funding for the provision of fuel efficient stoves in WFP assisted schools. Given the success of the fuel efficient sotves in reducing the consumption of fuel wood in the past, the project would be benefitting five remote and most vulnerable schools in Samdrup Jongkhar through SGP and five other schools from Dagana and Thimphu Dzongkhags through the WFP.

The objective of the project is to install fuel efficient improved stoves in 5 community primary schools in order to reduce the fuelwood consumption in these schools by almost 50% and thereby, saving a number of trees. The spin-offs would be awareness to the cooks, students and parents on fuelwood consumption, need to sustainably use the natural resources around them.

The improved cooking stoves have been successfully installed in the five community primary schools namely Zamtari CPS; Tshotsalu CPS; Dungmanma CPS; Sarjung CPS and the Bazor CPS. The stoves were of 100 and 75 ltr capacity supplied as per the student capacity of each school.
