Establishment of Nursery to raise the Community Income to help the Shali Bagar CFMG establish a nursery and rehabilitate the degraded area and improve the habitat for the ecosystem and biodiversity conservation.
The 25 acres of government reserved forest at Bagar in Shali village under Shumar geog, was established in 2002 as the community forest. Presently the community forest has 48 community management group (CFMG). Initiallt the community forest (CF) was established with the objective of sustainable management of forest to ensure supply of forest produce and services for the long term improvement of the socio-economic status of the present and future generation of the Shali community on sustainable yield basis. However, irrespective of their hardship and endeavor, this was not achieved, due to heavy degradation (surface run-off from rain water and land slides) and lack of proper management system.

The project would focus on relationship of environmental protection to building sustainable livelihood at community level and also to foster community participation and committment to development and environmental protection initiatives on sustainable basis.

The objective of the project is:
1. To help Shali Bagar CFMG establish a nursery and rehabilitate the degraded area;
2. To sustainably use Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and help them realize the importance of conserving them; and
3. To earn extra income by producing seedlings in a commercial scale for sale and also by selling NTFPs.

Activities of the project includes:
1. Awareness Meeting;
2. Establishment of Nursery;
3. Plantation of NTFPs.

The Establishment of Nursery has been completed. The walnut saplings are ready for transplanting from the mother and also for selling. The water supply to to he nursery has been established.
