Keeping common birds common: what common birds tell us about our environment
Keeping common birds common: what common birds tell us about our environment
The project aims at working towards developing a monitoring scheme for common birds in Botswana as a way of using them as biodiversity and environmental indicators.

Common bird indicators are especially useful in showing change in the overall condition of ecosystems, which is difficult and expensive to measure directly. More so, we may be facing declines of common bird populations without our knowledge, yet such declines would indicate a fundamental flaw in the way we treat our environment and thus influence the way we behave. In the case of Botswana, this has direct relevance for government departments and ministries, the private sector, NGOs, CBOs and the public at large.
